Start of construction of Nabucco gas pipeline is planned for 2013 depending on successful negotiations between shareholders and gas suppliers.

The statement came from Christian Dolezal, Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Department of Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH, at a Caspian Oil & Gas-2011 conference in Baku.

“Nabucco is a great European project, which will serve as the backbone of the Southern Gas Corridor,” Dolezal said.

"We're open to new shareholders. We are willing to provide safe and comfortable conditions for investors. Nabucco shareholders are also ready to hold talks with the Shah Deniz Consortium," said Dolezal.

He also said that the Nabucco consortium expects to receive gas volumes not only from Azerbaijan but also from Iran in the amount of 10-20bn cubic meters.

"Today, therefore it is necessary to consider the possibility of transporting additional volumes of gas," Consortium official added.

Construction of Nabucco is expected to begin in 2013 with the first flow of gas to be piped in 2017....
